How to Get Involved 2012!
An open letter to anyone & everyone,
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This year’s theme, set by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, is Healthy Sexuality!
With knowledge about our bodies, the ability to express our desires, and respect for the sexuality of ourselves and of others, we can help create a world without rape.
We are encouraging you to get involved in our movement this year through positive art displays. This project was inspired by the Clothesline Project, which seeks to bear witness to sexual violence by asking survivors to decorate t-shirts with their stories. Here’s what we are hoping for with this project:
Make art! You can host an event or make art with family, friends, school clubs, sports teams, your church/temple/synagogue/mosque, co-workers, or your community. Create art (such as decorating a t-shirt) that finishes the sentence, “One thing I’ve learned about relationships/sex that I wish everyone knew…”
Display the art! Put up the pieces in common spaces in your community to spread the word about healthy sexuality
Send us photos! We will be posting photos on our Tumblr all month long to display the work being made. Email us your photos at: endingsexualassaultstl@gmail.com
Celebrate! Come celebrate with us as we display seleceted pieces of art at an informal & fun get together at Café Ventana (3919 W. Pine) from 5-7pm on Friday, April 27
Sincerely,
